In that agricultural season, 600,000 hectares of land were prepared, 20,000 more than in the previous edition.
The local government supported some 112,000 peasant families with agricultural inputs, of which 81,000 in the first phase and 31,000 in the second.
For this project, the central government also provided a kit to clear the land, with heavy machinery and 50 agricultural tractors, which resulted in the creation of 10 Agricultural Mechanization Brigades, distributed across all the municipalities on that parcel of land.
Besides maize, the farmers also harvested unspecified quantities of rice, beans, soya, tubers (cassava, sour and sweet potatoes), as well as various vegetables.
According to the director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Marcolino Rocha Sandemba, who was speaking at a meeting of Understanding on Improving the Business Environment between producers and buyers from the processing industry and farmers, despite the increase in the production of various crops, the peasants still face difficulties in marketing their products from the countryside to the city.
For the next agricultural year, according to the source, it is intended to increase production and harvest levels, mainly of cereals, as they are widely consumed in the country, without, however, specifying the quantity to be harvested.
The director of the Integrated Economic Development Office, Anacleta Leonardo said that the Angolan Government had been working to improve the business environment between the producer and buyer, in order to avoid deterioration of products from the countryside.
