Belgium wants to invest in port sector

Lubango - Belgium said that it was interested in increasing ties and forms of cooperation between university research institutions with Angola, as well as in the port, diamond and agro-livestock sectors.

Belgium ambassador to Angola, Joseph Smets

The intention was expressed Monday by that country’s ambassador to Angola, Joseph Smets, in Lubango, southern Huila  province, at the end of a meeting he held with the provincial governor, Luís Nunes.

He announced his country’s intention to focus on the exploration of diamonds, modernisation of ports, in addition to adopting mechanisms to develop agribusiness in the country.

The diplomat defended the need for European Union member States to support Angola to tackle the economic crisis.

Joseph Smets also spoke of supporting for the diversification of the economy, professional training, and in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.

The ambassador said these are the objectives set by the organisation for period ranging from five to seven year, starting in 2020.

The Belgian ambassador, who has been in Huíla for a three-day visit, plans to hold meetings with the business class and civil society.

Visit to economic and social units, is also part of visiting agenda of the diplomat, who has already visited the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Benguela.
