Addressing a ceremony that marked the National Teachers’ Day on Thursday (22 November), the deputy Governor for the Political, Economic and Social Sector of Cunene, Albertina José, in Ondjiva, southern Cunene province, stressed the teachers’ role.

She noted that the teachers role is not just restricted to convey knowledge but also to pass values ??that help citizens live in harmony in the community.

The official defined the teacher as a person who invests in the process of development of integral education of the child, adolescent, youth and adults.

She spoke of the commitment to the extension and improvement of the Education quality as one of the Executive’s challenge for National Development Plan (2017-2022).

The deputy Governor called on teachers to exercise their profession with greater rigour, zeal, effectiveness and accountability to raise the quality of the teaching and learning process.

The National Educator's Day was institutionalised in 1978 by the Angolan State, following the opening of the literacy campaign launched by the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, on November 22, 1976 in Luanda.
