In a press statement, after three-day working visit to the province of Huambo, the official said that the Ministry of Education is doing everything to ensure that the resumption of the teaching/learning process, reopened on the October 5th, does not compromise the health and welfare of students and teachers.

To this end, Pacheco Francisco said that the municipal administrations had been instructed to purchase biosafety equipment from school lunch budgets in order to prevent infections with Covid-19.

He said that, in the event of infections being registered in one of the schools, it would not be necessary to close it, as happened with the Portuguese School in Luanda (the country's capital), but only to isolate the student and the class, respectively.

Then, he said, tests are carried out to assess the epidemiological situation of the infected's colleagues.

The Secretary of State called on parents and guardians to advise their children on measures to prevent and combat Covid-19, as it is not the sole responsibility of government authorities.

Mr Pacheco said that all biosecurity measures were being put in place and that they should consist above all in strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and the health authorities, with one-off screening and isolation of suspect cases.
