Cuanza Norte records 478 cases of HIV-AIDS

Ndalatando - The northern Cuanza Norte province recorded 478 new cases of HIV-AIDS which resulted in 27 deaths from January to June of this year, Angop learnt on Friday.

There was a reduction of 113 cases of the disease and an increase of eleven deaths, compared to the first half of 2019.

According to half-year balance of the Programme to Fight AIDS, the cases stem from 19,600 tests conducted in above period.

The source points to the age group from 25 to 49 years old, with 263 positive cases, in a universe of 6,758 people tested, followed by those aged from 15 to 24 years old, with 65 positive cases in 4,022 screened people.

Among the identified HIV-AIDS carriers, there are also 79 pregnant women, from a universe of 19,600 women undergoing tests, 49 with over 50 years of age in 1,173 screened.

Twenty-two people aged from 0-14 years were identified with the disease, in 817 submitted to tests.

Still, in the same period, 58 HIV-positive patients abandoned treatment, while eight were transferred to other reference units for treatment.

The source assured that the province has sufficient stocks of material for testing HIV-AIDS and drugs for medical assistance to people with the disease.

Cuanza Norte currently has voluntary HIV testing and counseling centers located in the 10 municipalities of the province.
