Health minister assesses Ondjiva general hospital

Ondjiva - Angolan Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta evaluated Tuesday the state of Ondjiva General Hospital in southern Cunene province, shortly after the infrastructure’s surgery ward to have been destroyed by fire.

Health minister assesses damage caused by fire at Odjiva general hospital

The fire, which also gutted the oxygen storage wing, broke out at around 10pm on Monday.

Fire-fighters would not managed to put out the fire until 02:00 am on Tuesday, with material damage still to be quantified, according to Ondjiva General Hospital Department.

The source also mentioned 200 patients, as having been evacuated to the health centers and school facilities.

Preliminary data pointed to a short circuit, but the provincial commander of the Fire-Department, chief Paulo Kalunga, told the press that the real reason has yet to be determined.

During a few-hour visit, the minister Sílvia Lutucuta learned of the damage caused by fire as well as visited the transferred patients at the Calcule health center and the new Cuanhama municipal hospital.
