The information was released Monday in Mbanza Kongo by the spokesperson for the Provincial Multisector Commission for Covid-19 Control and Combat, João Miguel Paulo.

Soyo municipality had reported 141 patients of covid-19 earlier this year, but 116 of them have since been recovered.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a local government’s extraordinary meeting, João Miguel Paulo said the Multisector Commission is busy making arrangements to accommodate the Mbanza Kongo’s 77 Covid-19 patients.

He added that Mbanza Kongo, with 155,174 inhabitants, is short of rooms to accommodate the Covid-19 patients, being the authorities considering the purchase tents for the purpose.

According to the official, the Commission is working to trace the contacts of Mbanza Kongo’s cases that have been confined somewhere.

He also said the province is out of resources to get biosecurity materials and rapid tests, including a site to handle the positive cases.

The Commission’s spokesperson stated as well the field hospital in Nzeto town with 80 beds for Covid-19 patients is still being installed.

Zaire province has so far reported 218 positive cases of covid-19, 116 recoveries, no death, 102 active patients.
