The Municipality of Curoca, 333 kilometres off Ondjiva (the province’s chief town) is the poorest of the 164 existing in the country, indicated in the first Report on Multidimensional Poverty made by the National Statistics Institute (INE), presented in November 2019.The document showed that 90% of inhabitants in the municipality do not have access to education, health, employment and housing.

Moreover, the Municipality of Curoca currently needs 477 tonnes of food to help the population in rural areas, due to the scarce amount of rain in the area, compromising this year's agricultural campaign, according to data from the municipal administration.

In a statement to the press, in making an assessment of the four-day visit to Cunene, to assess the sector she runs, the minister said that this work must be done urgently by the social action office in this southern province, with technical support from the ministry.

The work must be done on the basis of technical knowledge, to comply with the required standards, she stressed.

The official said that registration is essential to ascertain the degree of vulnerability of each family, whereby the elderly, children under five, heads of household, existence of chronic diseases will be identified, to define how to help vulnerable families to improve their social situation.

Along with Curoca, she disclosed, the work will later extend to the level of the six municipalities in Cunene Province, in order to be integrated into the unique social register, which will be on a digital platform.

During her stay in Cunene, the government official held a meeting with local government officials, went to the municipality of Curoca, where she learnt about the social situation of the population, offered basic food baskets and visited the Haidinguili family, composed of people with congenital disorder.
